Featured Article: Entertaiment
The word entertain derives from the Latin entertain, which means “to diversion, divert,” or “amuse.” Entertaiment has a broad range of meanings: something that gives pleasure, amusement, or diversion. It also encompasses activities that help with intellectual growth, such as solving a crossword or playing a game of cards. For children, entertainment may involve a performance (such as an opera or dance recital), child rearing or social interaction through dolls and games. It may also be a form of self-gratification, such as gambling or playing video games. Many forms of entertainment have the ability to inspire retellings in other media. For example, the story of Scheherazade from Persian professional storytelling tradition has been adapted to orchestral music by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel; to film by Pasolini; and into innovative video games.
